Tish Westman

    Tish and her husband Greg make up two of the three full time resident studio  Artisan
    at Tamarack in Beckley, West Virginia, which is an art center showcasing
    "The Best of West Virginia",
    Art and Crafts from across the state. Along with being a woodworker and Luthier she also
    is a singer/songwriter, musician and teacher of many stringed instruments. She plays
    Bowed Psaltery, Ukulele, Clawhammer Banjo, Autoharp, Native American Flute and piano
    and has won several awards on Mountain Dulcimer including Mid-East Regionals. For 10
    years, Tish and Greg  organized “The Bowed Psaltery Symphony” which has had over 60
    musicians from all over the country come to participate and perform at Tamarack. Because
         of Covid 19, 2020 had major changes in venues so Tish has started teaching virtually for
    festivals and private sessions.   She has CDs recorded with "Psaltrio" and many song books.
    They have performed on Mountain Stage and many other music venues including our local
    Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg, WV. Tish's passion is teaching people to play music, fiber arts
    and gardening.

    This class will help you to learn how to play your Bowed Psaltery and to understand the music language.  
    We will work on options of playing styles and learn the basics of music theory.
    By end of class you will be playing a Mozart piece,  Ring Out the Bells

    You will learn what “droning”  is and how to benefit from knowing why and which notes to drone on.

    We will work on what makes up a chord and what choices you can use to play along and create
    harmony on “Auld Lang Syne”.

    You will learn more about using the notes in chords to create your own harmony not just a drone part.
    We will do this with “Coventry Carol”.

    We will work through a couple 17th Century tunes that are now played as Christmas Carols.  Timing
    can be tricky..  “Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella” and “The Ash Grove”.
